Hey there, I’m Bailey Dowlin and I am a fine art student studying at University of Cincinnati, DAAP. I am currently working on my fine arts degree, art education license, and art history minor.
This is my artist blog/website! This site is a living archive and conversation in process: It’s where I post all of my work, old and new, share thoughts on artists of the past and present, post reviews of art events I attend, and discuss art education, my dream career.
A little bit about me, I was born in 1992 that has wanted to be an artist ever since I can remember. I love watching as many movies as I can, sushi, dogs, owls, and bike riding. I listen to a ridiculously large range of music, love being in the ocean, and am a clumsy, awkward person who tells dad jokes. Throughout my life I’ve tried baseball, choir, piano, sailing, ice skating, color guard, and the only thing that has stuck with me is art. I can’t imagine where I would be or what I would do if I wasn’t able to express my creativity via art.
As an artist, I identify as a painter and blossoming photographer. My personal work tends to be in the abstract realist category, and I use a variety of materials, oil paint and watercolor being my favorite.
I have a particular love for portraits and traditional art, but also appreciate the contemporary. My work mainly consists of portraits of various subjects in oil paint, graphite, or in a photograph. Whether it be self-portraits or people I don’t even know, I think there is something special and unique about the human face, and I wish to capture that in my work.
Recently, I have been making primarily abstract art, but from time to time still practice traditional art forms and studies, and continue to enjoy creating art involving the human face. I have fallen in love with mixed media and am concentrating on that for my senior thesis at DAAP.
I have experience with painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, woodwork, ceramics, and wheel throwing. Occasionally I make work that is not a painting or drawing, and it is lots of fun to experiment with other art forms. However, I am a painter by heart and will always be, and drawing is essential to my practice as well. I love art and hope to help others realize the importance of creativity and art in the world.
My goal in life is to help others to appreciate art and its beauty. Currently I am working to get my teaching license; I hope to be art educator so I can help people realize their potential talent, and spread love for creativity and the arts. I think art is so important, and everyone can find value and appreciation if they took the time. Expressing creativity is some form or another is vital to human existence in my opinion.
Now that you know a little bit more about me as an artist, feel free to look at my work, ideas, and photos!
